Drs. Paul Perito & Alfie Suarez-Sarmiento, Jr. Represent Innovation in Men' s Health at AUA 2026 in Washington, D.C.
This month, Drs. Paul Perito and Alfredo Suarez-Sarmiento, Jr. traveled to Washington, D.C. for the 2026 Annual Meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA), joining some of the world’s leading voices in urology, prosthetic surgery, hormone optimization, sexual medicine, and regenerative therapies. Representing Perito Urology, the team participated in a meeting heavily focused on the rapidly changing landscape of men’s health.
One of the most prevalent themes presented by the Sexual Medicine Society of North America’s (SMSNA) sectional session was the explosive growth of testosterone therapy and the increasing concern surrounding over-prescription and poorly supervised online men’s health programs.
Many experts discussed the dangers of “fast-food medicine” — clinics focused on volume rather than individualized patient care, proper follow-up, fertility counseling, and long-term safety monitoring. The conversation reflected a growing belief among leaders in the field of men’s health that hormone optimization should remain physician-guided and rooted in comprehensive men’s health evaluation rather than simply treating lab values.
Another highlight of the conference was an afternoon dedicated entirely to penile implant surgery and the ongoing discussion surrounding the strengths and limitations of the various inflatable penile prosthesis companies.
Dr. Perito joined renowned prosthetic urologists Drs. Rafael Carrion and Steve Wilson for a presentation examining the evidence behind the major implant penile implant options currently available. Using live props and practical surgical demonstrations, the panel explored the pros and cons of each device and emphasized an important point often lost in marketing battles: There is no single implant that is best for every patient.
Different implants may better suit different anatomies, lifestyles, expectations, and revision scenarios; successful outcomes ultimately depend on surgeon experience, patient education, and thoughtful device selection more than brand loyalty alone.
The meeting also highlighted the rapidly expanding role of peptide therapy and regenerative medicine within modern men’s health. Discussions centered around the importance of physician-guided peptide protocols, sourcing medications from reputable pharmacies, and avoiding the increasingly crowded online marketplace of poorly regulated wellness products. Attorney and pharmacist Lee Rosebush spoke extensively about the current regulatory climate surrounding peptides and the likely path toward future oversight and regulation. The message throughout the conference was consistent: Peptides and regenerative therapies continue to gain momentum, but the future of the field requires responsible physician leadership, patient safety, evidence-based protocols, and ethical prescribing practices.
For Drs. Perito and Suarez-Sarmiento, AUA 2026 reinforced what they have long believed: Whether discussing testosterone therapy, penile implants, or peptide medicine, the future of men’s health belongs to practices that combine innovation with experience, education, and individualized patient care.
