Considering Scrotal HA Injections? Hold Off (For Now).

Scrotal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid fillers (HA), when properly administered, are a safe way to boost appearance, performance, and self-confidence. They’re bio-compatible, non-permanent, and from a qualified provider can boost penile girth, lip fullness, and other areas of the body.

The safety and efficacy of HA fillers doesn’t mean that they can safely be injected anywhere in the body, however. Case in point: The rising number of men seeking to give their bulges a boost with scrotal HA injections (or to put it more colloquially, plumping your balls).

Like the penis, the scrotum and the testicles are extremely complicated parts of your body. Unlike the penis, the effects of HA injections into the scrotum haven’t been studied as rigorously; the UroFill® girth enhancement technique was tested and developed for over eight years before hitting the market. Legitimate medical research on scrotal fillers is slim, at best, and typically incorrectly correlated with girth enhancement.

Are There Any Proven Methods of Scrotal Enhancement?

Fortunately for men seeking to enhance their bulges, there is a more widely-tested (pardon the pun) method: Scrotal botox injections, or Scrotox. Originally used for medical reasons such as scrotal inflammation, botulinum toxin A, when injected into scrotal muscles, can provide a larger, lower-hanging and smooth appearance. Some patients also report heightened sexual pleasure.

Non-surgical with effects lasting for up to four months, scrotox has been more thoroughly vetted by practicing urologic surgeons and andrologists.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy and Scrotal Injections

One factor driving curiosity about scrotal fillers is the more common usage of testosterone replacement therapy, or TRT. Just as penile girth enhancement is gaining a wider audience, more men are seeking treatment to restore and/or maintain their testosterone levels. For some men, this can come with an unfortunate side effect: Shrinking testicles.

HA scrotal filler is often presented as the treatment to diminished testicular size, often by the same providers. While TRT is safe and medically proven (following a full blood panel and consultation with a trained andrologist), “ball shrinking” is a known side effect for some patients.

Without proper testing and non-anecdotal research by the urological medical community, scrotal HA remains something of a question mark that we recommend patients avoid for the time being. Once the technique is fully tested and standardized, there may be room for it as a legitimate treatment to restore appearance and confidence. Until then, the risks to the health of patients (and their testicles) are unnecessarily high.
